DIY Schoolhouse lights

I saw this at Take the Side Street and knew I had to do this for the entry way and the upstairs hall. I love these THAT much!

I went to Lowe’s and bought 4 of these @ about $6 each.

002

Then I bought 4 of these @ $5.12 each.

006

Then I spray painted the brass fixtures with Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Broze.

004

Ed took down the existing “boob” lights.

009

Then replaced them with these.

014

Much better.

We are putting the clear globes that came with the light fixture in our upcoming garage sale along with the “boob” lights.

Time out stools for the twins

My boys individually are a handful but you put them together and some days it’s all I can do to keep them from tearing down our house brick by brick! Of course this leads to a lot of time outs. I saw somewhere a few months ago a time out stool someone had made and thought that would be perfect for the boys! Of course I had to make two of them….

I bought the stools at Hobby Lobby. They were about $15.00 and I had a 40% coupon both times (bought them separately) so I paid about $9 each. I used paint and supplies I had on hand so each stool cost less than $10.

I primed them with Kiltz and painted them with paint samples I had on hand.

The green one is Ben Moore Potpourri Green mixed at Lowe’s and the yellow is Valspar Sorbet mixed at Lowe’s.

024

After painting them I used my Cricut and Make the Cut software to make a stencil. You can download the Make the Cut file I made here if you are interested.

I think they turned out really cute!

MAD

Blogger has messed up my blog. Stuff that I had posted was no longer posted but in draft or scheduled to post. The link parties I have been to are now gone. I am not sure the links I have put for the posts that were not where they should be will work now in the parties I have attended. I am mad. I am looking into changing to Word Press now. I mean, WTH??? It's not like I have a back up for this stuff somewhere!

Wonderful week

This has really been a great week! I won another giveaway but had not shared it yet because I had not been in contact with the person whose giveaway it was. I won the Day 11 giveaway at The DIY Club, it was a $50 gift certificate to Diane Timberlakes shop Celebrating Home. I have chosen to buy this with my certificate.

Isn't is pretty? I can't wait to get it!

And today, before I found out I won the Kreg Jig giveaway, I was at GW and picked up two matching oval mirrors. I have a few ideas for them but I am undecided right now. I know they are going to get a good coat of paint though. :)

So much to keep me busy! lol Oh and I had never won anything at all before this week!!!

I WON!!!!

Remember the other day when I posted here about the Kreg Jig giveaway at The Design Confidential??? Well I won it! Seriously! I won it! Can you tell I am sooo freakin' excited???? And yes, I am going to share it with Ed. lol

I can't wait to get it! Now I just need to decide what I am gonna build....any suggestions?

Painted curtains-tutorial

I thought about stenciling curtains for the library but decided that stripes would work well and take a lot less time. Seeing that I have 4 kids and 2 dogs running around my house doing this project quickly was a must.

What I used:

  • 2 top sheets from Ikea ($9.00)
  • painters tape (had it)
  • Valspar satin black paint off the shelf (about $10.00)
  • tape measure (had it)
  • pencil (had it)
  • plastic (had it)
  • thread for sewing (had it)

I started out by buying twin size top sheets at Ikea for $4.50 each. I bought 2 and cut them in half, one sheet per window. I sewed up the side where I had cut them in half and hemmed them to the desired length.

When I was ready to paint them I laid plastic down on the floor in my breakfast area then laid down 2 curtain panels. This is all I could comfortably fit in this area. I measured out 8 inch increments all the way down then taped them using blue painters tape.

(Please excuse the icky pictures, my camera doesn’t get any better as it gets older. Hoping to afford a new one maybe for Christmas. Smile )

022

Then I just rolled on the black paint and let it dry. Once they were dry I hung them up and repeated the process with the 2 remaining panels.

Don’t they look awesome? Even Jessica said they were cool and wants to know why I didn’t do her curtains that way. lol For about $20 they are pretty awesome! Maybe once the boys are in school full time I will try my hand at stenciling some panels. Maybe.
