Upstairs hall bath

When we bought our home a few months ago it had not been painted since it was built almost 11 years before. Of course we could not move in without painting so we chose a color and painted it throughout the entire house, all 3500+ sq. ft. Yes, it was exhausting and took us a week, only stopping to eat, sleep and shower. Well after 5 months of looking at walls that are all the same color I have had enough. I started out painting the kids bathroom upstairs. It was so blah and I just couldn’t take it anymore. Here is a picture from before we moved in:

Here is a picture after we moved in:

And here it is now:

At first we were a bit worried it would be too dark but after we put the light fixtures and accessories back up (after painting them white) it looked great. I also made some artwork for the walls, the 2 sunflower pictures in the picture above and another one that is sitting on the counter waiting to be put up. I have a few other decorative things to put up but sometime this week.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Father’s Day pics

These weren’t taken on Father’s Day but the night before when Edward got home from California. The boys were blabbing about his gifts so we gave them to him early. :)

We had a nice day. Hope everyone else did as well.

Father’s Day gift and card

I rarely have original ideas. I am thankful that there are so many talented people out there who are willing to share their ideas!

I saw this project on another blog (Ready Set Create) and thought it would be great to get one of those for Mother’s Day but seeing that I am the crafty one, not hubby, it was up to me to make it. I decided it would be a nice gift for him for Father’s Day as well and maybe he can take it to work and display it. :)

Supplies:

  • frame
  • pictures
  • letters D and A (from Michael’s)

It’s very simple to do. I just took pictures of the kids holding the D and the A and I printed them in black and white and put them in the frame.

I just love this!

I also found this card idea from another blogger at Your Memories Captured. She did the hard work and all I did was download the file, open it up in paint, fill in the blanks then print it out using Word and double sided printing.

Then while I was at GW Friday I found this awesome wooden tool box and added it to his gift. It goes well considering I also got him books on making toys and projects he can do with the kids.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!

Wall Art

I saw this at the Speckled Dog. She found it through another blogger. It’s pretty cool and pretty easy to do. The original post is at My 3 Monsters. The photos are from Leo Reynolds Flickr photostream found here. Very cool pics!

I used Microsoft Word to make the collage. It isn’t seemless but I like it just the same! :)

Also I finally got the Dog Silhouettes hung. They are so cute!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Burlap Wreath

I got this idea from Where the heart is.

You will need:

  • wire of some kind (coat hanger?)
  • burlap cut into 4-6 inch strips
  • ribbon for hanging

I used 4 inch wide burlap strips and some copper wire that I pulled from some leftover electrical wire we have had laying around for a few years now (a very exciting find!).

030

I forgot to take pictures of the wire and the burlap strips, sorry. I cut the wire and shaped it into a circle (but you can shape it into whatever shape you choose) then I poked the wire through the burlap and scrunched it over and over. I ended up using 2 pieces of burlap that were 7 foot long each.

Here it is before I added the ribbon.

I just love how this turned out!

Half price at GW

I stopped by GW today while running errands and it was 1/2 price day! That’s very exciting for me. :) Here is what I got. I have plans for most of this already.

002 004 005

I may go back later today or tomorrow (2 day sale) and see what else I can find! Can’t wait to get started on these things. Just need to pick up a few more supplies but first I should probably finish the projects I currently have going! lol

Have a great day!

Another blog hop! Jump on!!!

PB dog silhouettes (my version)

I had already done the silhouettes of the kids and I put them in our front entry. I thought the dog silhouettes would look cute in the dining room but I wanted to do them a little differently. I also decided to add a cat cause I had 3 frames. lol

Supplies:

  • frames
  • scrapbook paper
  • ribbon for hanging
  • pictures to make silhouettes
  • black construction paper
  • tape

I gathered my supplies:

012 013

To do the silhouettes I took pics of the dogs (the one of the cat I got off the internet),

006

printed them out and cut them out on black construction paper.

014

Then I cut the scrapbook paper to fit inside the frames, taped the silhouettes on each one and put the back on.

005

Now all I have to do is get some black ribbon to hang them! :)

Some pics from our weekend

Here are some pics from our weekend. We didn’t do much really. Friday night Ed and I took the boys to Kohl’s to get a few more shirts and some boxers for sleeping in (I got a 30% off discount in the mail). They really liked the boxers, much cooler to sleep in those with a white t-shirt.

Saturday we took the boys to the zoo and Ethan had a meltdown of monumental proportions. We brought them home so he could calm down then we took them and Jessica to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to see if I could find a few things I was looking for to do a couple of craft projects. After that we stopped by Lowe’s for the paint and supplies for painting the kids bathroom upstairs (which I won’t get to this week). After dinner we played ring around the rosy, duck, duck goose and hide and seek with the boys. That was fun. :)

Today was a lazy day. Not much going on. The girls are grounded from the internet and their phones right now so they have been playing games on their laptops since Friday night. You will notice in the pics that Jessica is in the same spot, doing the same thing but with different clothes. lol I hope everyone had a good weekend.

New pages

At the top, under the blog name, you will now see "About me", "Furniture we built" and "Things I made". Those are links to stand alone pages I have added. I will add to them periodically to keep things better organized. :)

I have big plans for this next week so hopefully the weather will allow me to get some things done. I will post when I have something.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Our new bed

I am so excited! Our Farmhouse bed from http://www.knock-offwood.com/ turned out much better than I had expected! I have to say that Ed did most of the work on this one. I did some sanding but not much. This was his project and he did a wonderful job! It is a bit higher than he told me it would be but that’s okay. It’s something I will just have to get used to.

Also yesterday was Ethan’s last day of school for the year. Ed and I took Edward and joined Ethan and his class for their end of year party and graduation for the kids who are going to kindergarten next year. They seemed to really enjoy it and Edward sang right along with all the other children.

Here is a pic of Ethan as the cow in the Old MacDonald song.

And here is Ethan eating a cookie while Edward tries to block the picture. Silly boys.

019

I wish I had taken more pics cause most of the ones I did take were blurry from them moving around so much! :)

Summer has officially begun. The girls got out of school about 5 minutes ago. Ugh.

WAS SHE THINKING????

Ever have one of those moments when your child has done something insanely stupid and instead of thinking to yourself “WHAT were they thinking???” you wonder “WERE they thinking????”. Well we had one of these moments today.

Edward Jr. and I had been home about 5 minutes from running errands when the call came in on my cell phone. Phone calls this week, especially from the high school, have not brought positive results. Monday I was woke up by an assistant principal telling me that my two wonderful daughters had a screaming match at school (before school) and if they had not been sisters they would be on their way to jail then I had the school call and leave a message today that summer school is cancelled FOR BOTH GIRLS due to lack of participation (yes they both failed at least one class this year!!!). Well when my cell phone rang and it was a local number but no name I immediately felt sick…what did they do now???  It was Marisa and she proceeds to tell me one of the dumbest things I have heard in a long, long time. Apparently their journalism teacher told them to take pictures doing “spontaneous” things. Great. Teenagers are already spontaneous enough and now someone has encouraged them to do this for the CAMERA!!! So, my daughter-who just turned 17-decides to JUMP OFF THE BLEACHERS and this is at least a 10 foot drop, with no shoes on and lands on her feet then her butt. Of course she is hurt. What idiot would do this to begin with? She is lucky she didn’t break her neck or end up with a spinal injury. But you know what she tells me when I let her know how stupid this was??? BUT IT WAS A GREAT PICTURE!!! Is she freaking kidding me??? Here it is BTW.

084

Needless to say the nurse insisted I come get her, school was out by then anyway. I got her an appt with the pediatrician and he sent her for x rays (after asking her if she was going to be in the next JackAss movie!!!). She is not broken, not any of her bones are anyway. I will get back to you on her brain though.

My first frame

I made my first frame. Ed actually cut the wood but I assembled it and next time I will cut the wood myself. After a bit of trial and error I got it together. I don’t have any fancy tools for making frames but I found some tips online that helped a lot.

I made this frame out of cheap trim we picked up at the hardware store that was already primed. I painted it brown then decided I wanted it to be black instead. I think it looks good especially for my first time! :)

006

007 Here is a picture of the shelf I moved down to the dining room last week. I think it gives the room something it was lacking. I can’t wait till we get the table made next year! I also can’t wait to replace that horrible light above the table! Ick!!!

Friday evening activity

Tonight the girls went off shopping so it was just Ed and I with the boys. After everything was cleaned up from dinner Ed decided to make cookies. Jessica and her friend made some last weekend and I still have not figured out what they did wrong to them but they weren’t right. lol I am pretty sure the ones Ed made tonight will taste just fine. He knows how to read and follow directions (hopefully). lol Here are some pics.

Silhouettes

I have seen this done many times on different blogs and thought I would try it out. I think they turned out pretty good.
