Make and stencil a pillow cover

Not too long ago learned how to make pillow covers and I am so excited about how much money this will save us! I change things up a lot and pillows are a big part of that so if I can just change out the covers for a few dollars it saves money for other things!

I was able to make 2 pillow covers for 20 inch pillow inserts (from IKEA) with 1 1/4 yards of fabric.

First I cut my pieces: 1 square 21 x 21 inches and 2 rectangles 21 x 13 inches each.

001

I folded down one long side of a 21 x 13 piece twice then ironed and sewed it down. Do both pieces this way.

Next I placed the 21 x 13 pieces on top of the 21 x 21 piece with the good side facing in. I then pinned them so that there was an opening in the middle to insert the pillow. I also rounded the corners because I prefer that. 004

I sewed around the edges, turned it right side out and inserted my pillow form to check the fit.

Perfect.

On one of the pillow covers I sewed a large button and plan add velcro on the inside flaps to hold it shut once I get more velcro. You don’t have to do that but it’s what I prefer to try and keep my boys from taking the covers off.

012

For the other pillow cover I cut out a large letter B on freezer paper with my Cricut. I inserted the freezer paper wax side up so I had to flip the letter B when cutting.

021

Next I took a sheet of freezer paper a little larger than my stencil and layed it wax side up inside the cover and put the stenciled B wax side down on the front of the cover. I ran a warm iron over it a few times and made sure it wasn’t going to move.

028

I used some black fabric paint I had on hand and a paint brush to stencil the B on the front of the pillow cover.

The paint bottle said to let dry for 4 hours.

Here is the end result.

I was really impressed with this and can’t wait to find something else I can stencil with freezer paper.

Tomorrow I am hoping to be able to show you my craft room all put back together and clean (fingers crossed).

And if you have not yet checked it out you can find my first link party here.

Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday pictures, new stove and craft room progress…

We had a wonderful time Wednesday for the boys birthday. Ed took the day off and we took the boys to Science Central then to Chuck E Cheese. After Chuck E Cheese we picked up the cake, came home to open presents and have cake and ice cream. The boys wanted IHOP for dinner so after doing a little grocery shopping (due to impeding ice storm) we stopped by IHOP for dinner. I took a lot of pictures. Smile I was playing with my cameras and I have decided it’s time for a new one but we won’t get into that right now.

Here is where you can find the pictures, all 208 of them!

Our new stove is so pretty! I loved it before I even used it just because it makes our kitchen look so much better! lol I did use it last night and it is so nice to have a stove that works properly! lol

My craft room/office. No doors, no blinds, furniture in the middle of the floor, walls painted, trim primed with first coat.

The goal is to have this room fully painted by Saturday night so I can put it back together Sunday. I had to get this done because we are due to head up to Michigan to IKEA soon to get the rest of my office furniture although I really didn’t plan to start it yesterday, it just happened. Smile The girls have gone to school 2 days this week (Monday and Wednesday) so I figured I would take advantage of them being home yesterday and today (I knew they wouldn’t go today due to the snow storm that was coming in).

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am off to paint some more.
