This was my first venture into chalk board paint. I can’t say I love the stuff but it is pretty cool. I had been trying to come up with something to turn into a chalk board for the kitchen. I had actually picked up an old bulletin board at GW that I was going to use but wasn’t thrilled by it so I kept looking. This tray was something I found in the clearance section at Big Lots last year and had put in my bathroom. The colors were not right and I had enough of it so I took it out of there and put it in my craft room closet. While cleaning it out the other day I decided to use it for a chalk board.
Here it is before:
The bottom of the tray was warped so I had Ed cut a new one.
The can said to put 2 coats but I ended up using 3. I just wasn’t happy with the way coat #2 was. I forgot to take pictures of it painted before I put it together.
I put a picture hanger on the back of the tray by first finding the center point and marking it then using my pliers to hold the tiny nails so I could hammer them in.
I flipped the tray over, ran a bead of hot glue around all four sides, sat the board on top then pressed down till I felt it was set.
I hung it in the kitchen and I am pretty happy with it. I think it will look better once I get the kitchen painted but I can only paint so fast!
(see how it holds the chalk???)
I did another project with the chalk board paint but I won’t show you that just yet….
I hope everyone is having a great day!
