Lamp shade make over

A couple of months ago I got these lamps and shades from Dollar General for 1/2 off. The shades were actually on sale for $3 each so I ended up paying $1.50 after my 50% off coupon. It was a great deal for sure but I wasn’t thrilled by the selection of shades that they had so I knew I would be making them over.

This is what they looked like before.

And here is the after.

I love how it adds a different texture to the room and they go quite nicely with my burlap table runner.

This was pretty simple but took a while. I used hemp and my hot glue gun and wrapped the hemp around while hot gluing it to the shade. Dork that I am I didn’t take pics while I was doing it. Sorry. It is a huge improvement though. Smile

My dining room still isn’t put back together but I plan to refinish all the furniture in that room very soon. Don’t you just love the golden oak stain on the buffet? It’s the same as my table and chairs. Ick. I didn’t like the stain when I bought the set but now I REALLY don’t like it. I also bought a hutch from craigslist to go on the buffet that is in scary condition. It’s sitting in the garage. Wish me luck. Originally I had wanted to have Ed build a farmhouse table but I decided we just don’t have the time for that and it would be easier and more cost effective to redo the one we already have. Hopefully I can get to this project soon.

Edit: Okay, I really am a dork. I just realized I saw a lamp shade like this on my dear friend Ange's blog! lol I knew I had seen something similar but couldn't for the life of me place it! You can see her lamp shade in her sons' room reveal at her blog The Blooming Hydrangea. Her sons' room looks awesome!

Don’t forget about my giveaway! Winner will be announced May 7, 2011.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. That looks great! I have that same lamp shade that I bought with a lamp from Dollar General and painted.
