Weekend trip to IKEA

Saturday we ventured up into Michigan to go to IKEA to pick up my birthday presents (more furniture for my office). We love IKEA. I wish I had more time to roam around but we had the boys in the supervised play area and they only keep them an hour. Really, an hour! That’s not enough time to do some serious shopping! It’s not even enough time to walk through the show room and look at stuff! I didn’t get through my list before Ed had to run off and pick the boys up.

We did have time to test out the chairs we are getting for the library, the sectional we want to get for the family room and we looked at mattresses and bed frames. We have a really nice bed frame that Ed made last summer but it is heavy and queen size. We have a Sleep Number bed which isn’t all bad, much improved from our last few mattresses, but still not what we are looking for. We loved the beds we had in Europe so we are probably going to buy a bed from IKEA next. We knew we didn’t have a lot of time so we hurried out way through the show room so we could get downstairs and start picking stuff up. Here’s a list of stuff we got:

  • new duvet and comforter for our bed
  • 4x4 Expedit cube shelf with desk for my office in white
  • 2 table tops (Vika Amon) in white
  • 8 table legs (Vika Curry) in white
  • storage boxes for my shelves in white
  • 6 more pillow inserts (4 feather, 2 poly fill)
  • utensil cup for kitchen counter
  • 2 hooks for dog leashes
  • and of course the boys each got a wooden construction set

It was a great trip even though we had to get through there in a hurry. I would love to just wander around in there for hours. Unfortunately I would probably spend WAY too much money. It’s a good thing it’s 3 hours away!

Here are some pics of my craft room/office with the new furniture. We still have a ways to go yet until it’s done.

It’s not exactly organized and we still need crown molding and more décor but it’s a work in progress. On top of putting together all of my new furniture Ed also put up a new ceiling fan for me. It gets rather hot in the craft room because it’s on the back of the house which gets the most sun. Thank you Honey!

It’s coming along nicely. I really love it.

  1. Your craft room is looking great! Ikea is sooo dangerous, I go just wanting 1 or 2 things and come out with bags full and my purse empty!! I'm also happy my 'local' Ikea is almost 2 hours away, I'd be so poor if it was any closer!

  4. Oh, IKEA!!! How I {heart} thee!!! Half my house is IKEA. Seriously. It's like an addiction. Sadly, the Euro to dollar rate stinks right now so things aren't as inexpensive as they used to be. We live in Germany (courtesy of the US Army) and are within 20 minutes of not one, but TWO IKEA stores! Can you believe the luck? The know Indy by name (his real name of course) at Smaland we're there so often.
BTW, the Expedit shelves are FAB-U-LOUS! We have 2 sets of the 4x4 (one with the desk attachment in our homeschool room), a 2x4 and a 2x2 (all in Indy's room). I love them so much it's almost sick.
