March 16, 2010

Last week was a pretty rough week here. It's funny how we have so little time because we are so busy but I can't figure out exactly what we are doing. We aren't accomplishing as much as I think we should. I guess it's the day to day stuff plus twins can run you in circles. :)

Edward Jr. and Ethan both had swollen tonsils last week and slight temps but nothing more. Thank God for that. Jessica came home from school yesterday throwing up, she doesn't have tonsils so they can't swell. This flu that is going through the house has been a nasty one for sure.

We did accomplished a few things in the last few days. Sunday we (mostly Ed) took apart part of our bathroom so the plumber could fix a leak in our Jacuzzi tub. They wanted to charge us $1000 to take down the mirror, remove the counter top and sinks and take out part of the vanity, then put it back. I said they were nuts and that we would do that ourselves. Our home warranty covered some of the cost of fixing the leak (we pay $75) but I was not going to pay them that much to do something we could very well do ourselves. Here are pics of it taken apart. We have not yet put it back together, we are waiting for the glue to dry and going to run the Jacuzzi to make sure the leak is fixed before we put it back together.

Here is a picture of our room, where everything we took out of the bathroom is being stored.

Also on Sunday Ed replaced the kitchen faucet. It was old and icky and the sprayer had broken. I couldn't get the aerator off to clean it out so it sprayed water in all directions when you turned it on. I finally had enough Saturday and told Ed we really needed to replace it. The new faucet isn't fancy, waiting to get what I want when we replace the counter tops with granite or quartz.

Before pic.

After pic.

And just for fun, Ed under the sink. :)

While Ed was doing this I decided to fix my kitchen curtain. I had bought it to go in the house in Texas and the rod it needed to use wasn't going to work in this kitchen so I had to add a pocket to it to make it work here.

This is what it looked like before (ours is brown).

(From the JCPenney website)

And here is what it looks like now.

That is the first thing I have successfully sewed since I made a jumpsuit (with a lot of help) in the 8th grade. I have attempted to sew other times but failed miserably. I think my new meds are keeping me quite calm so I don't get so anxious when trying to do something. I can actually concentrate now. I was quite proud of this so I thought I would see if we had anything else around that Ed had not yet gotten to (he is the one who usually does the sewing here) and I found some material we had bought before leaving Texas that Ed was going to use to make the boys new comforters for their toddler beds but didn't due to the move (we had actually forgotten about that until I found the material). I decided to use it to make curtains for the playroom. I got two panels made yesterday and I hope to get a valence to go in between done in the next couple of days but I have a lot to do today so it will probably be tomorrow. Here is a pic of the panels. The boys were very excited and couldn't wait to see them put up.

They are not perfect but I think they are pretty good.

I also got frustrated because it seems Ed never has any time to do anything around here so I took it upon myself to take care of a few things he has not gotten to (like fixing the kitchen curtain). He has put up curtain rods in the dining room and family room and we had thought they would be high enough for the panels but they were not so the panels were all crunched up on the floor. I got out the drill and I moved them up myself. I also put up curtains on the back door. It is so plain just having the vertical blinds there and a valence wouldn't work cause anyone taller than 5'5 would run into it. lol I made one error and had a hard time getting the vertical blinds down to put up the middle bracket but after much frustration I finally did it. :)

I need to get a red clock to replace that black one but I have yet to find one I like. I am doing red and brown in the kitchen.

We still need to get the clock I bought for my birthday with the gift card from my in laws put up. It will go above the fireplace. I am also looking for a large old looking globe. I found one online that was $250 and that isn't going to happen. lol I will keep looking though.

Also for my birthday, Ed and I both went to have massages. That was so nice and then we had Chinese for dinner. That is a big cheat for me, the msg in it always makes me swell up so I rarely eat it although I love it!

Hopefully this week everyone gets to feeling better and I can get whatever virus this is causing all this sickness out of the house and out of our systems. Ick.
