Friday night, Saturday

So, Jess didn’t get to perform last night. It might have been because she has missed a few practices due to her ankle problems. I dunno. Maybe she will get to perform next home game. :)

Today Edward and I got up and went for breakfast at a restaurant we had not tried before and won’t go to again. The food was okay but there was way too much of it, way too much grease and the cost was high for breakfast. After that he came home and mowed the yard while I went and had a manicure/pedicure. I really enjoyed that! When I got home I gathered all the kids and we started taking the apples off the apple tree. I am not at all fond of fruit trees but thought this one might be okay. I was wrong. Most of the fruit was eaten by bugs and birds, it makes a huge mess in the yard, the branches are too low and we run into the when we mow and it’s just an eye sore as far as we are concerned. So, we cut it down. Yep. It’s gone. Here is what it looked like back in April.

That’s Jess, apple tree is on the right. See how low the limbs are? See how wild it looks? It also blocked my view from the kitchen window as it grew out. I didn’t get a pic before we cut it down because we were just going to ‘trim’ it.

Here is the tree now.

Ed did try to dig out the stump, then he tried to CUT out the stump. I told him to stop wasting his time and we will hire someone to remove it. No arguments from him. I know I want another tree on that side of the yard but I don’t think I want it there. I will decide next Spring.

So it took 2 trips to the compost site to get rid of the branches then we went for Chinese for dinner. After dinner I wanted to go to Lowe’s to look at cabinets then we ended up looking at wood floors, tile, appliances and door knobs. I decided to buy 2 samples for wood floors, 1 bamboo and 1 oak, we are going with the oak in Vintage Brownstone. While waiting in line I noticed the woman in front of us had this nice oval mirror and I thought the clearance price said $15.00 so I asked Ed if I was seeing it correctly and he said yes so off to the mirrors we went! Of course they didn’t have any more in stock but they told us that another store had them. After paying for our floor samples we went directly to the other Lowe’s and luckily they had 2 left. So we got a $55 mirror for $15. Can you believe it? I am going to use it in our half bath, which has one of those icky builders mirrors. So here it is.

I took a pic of the mirror itself but Edward was holding it and it got blurred so this is it for now. I am not very fond of the color so I will probably paint it but I also have to take the builders mirror down and paint behind it. We painted around the mirror when we moved in because we assumed they had glued it to the wall like they did in our house in Texas but later we found out that they did not. It would have been so much easier to paint if we had known that! I am wanting to get that done sometime in the next week but I make no promises. I will try to remember to take before pics this time too. :)

On a different note, you really should check out Sandra’s blog at Sawdust and Paperscraps if you are into DIY or just want to get some great ideas. She also has an AWESOME Halloween candelabra tutorial which is how I found her. She did a guest post at Tatertots and Jello on how to make the candelabra and I was hooked! You really should check that out plus see what amazing work she has done on her home! She has inspired both Edward and I to just do what we had been debating about. It will be awesome!

That is why I blog, so I can get inspiration and ideas and hopefully pass them on to others. Be prepared, the plan is to begin the house transformation in February and yes, we are even doing the kitchen cabinets!!!! Stay tuned!
