I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend! Ours was pretty busy but productive.
Sunday morning Ed got up and told me that he thought he could cut the tree stump out if he picked up a new saw blade so off we went. For $2.75 he got a new blade then cut the stump right on out of there! He told me he was just too cheap to hire someone to do it (not surprised)! We picked up some soil from the compost site and filled in the hole and now it looks like this.
The view from the kitchen window now looks like this.
Much better.
We also got around to trimming the shrubs in front for Fall. They look so much better now! The previous home owner just let things go for so long and they have gotten too big. Ed cut off at least a foot off the evergreens in front of the house, I couldn’t stand looking out the windows at the bushes anymore.
I also cleaned up the Day Lily mess. I like them but there are just so many of them! I plan to move them to the side of the house next year because the Hostas over there are just not doing well. I will put annuals in front to replace the color from the Day Lilies.
Monday we didn’t do a lot around the house. Instead we went to the zoo. I remember now why we go early in the morning instead of waiting-it gets very crowded! And manners are not the same here as in the South. People in the South tend to be overly polite but here in the Midwest not so much. When you pass someone you should always say ‘excuse me’, if you step in someone’s way the same thing. Not here. And one thing that ticks me off is that those who are getting in MY way are not only rude about it by not saying ‘excuse me’ but they give me a dirty look like I am in THEIR way. Seriously? My Southern manners are being tested daily. At the football game Friday night there was this one teenage girl who kept stepping over me to go back and forth to where ever she kept going to and not once did she say “excuse me”. The last time she came through she had food and I was VERY tempted to trip her and see that food all over her. What stopped me was the innocent people around me who would have also been hit with all that food (and possibly myself). What is wrong with these people? Are they too busy or too good to say a polite “excuse me”??? And they drive with the same attitude here. I love living here but not so much dealing with the locals. lol Not all of them are like this but it seems to be the norm, not the exception. If they behaved this way in the South they would get a good tongue lashing and it would be done in such a way that they would THANK the person giving it when it was done. :) I am a bit harsher in my tongue lashings, must be my Irish blood…
Here are some pics from the zoo.
Yes, there is a picture of the Lions mating! Now we have seen the badgers and Lions mating and an adult mongoose chasing around a mom mongoose with a baby in her mouth-we presume it wanted to kill the baby. The circle of life.
Have a great week!
Chris
