Weekend list-Stair railing

Slowly but surely my house is getting painted. A couple of weeks ago I primed the stair railings and spindles around our upstairs loft.

Last weekend Ed and I painted the spindles and trim white. We used Valspar High Gloss enamel in white, no color added.

This past weekend I finally got to see if the brown* we picked out for the top railings and newels (which we will also use on the stair treads when we get those in) was what we were wanting. It is perfect. We are both thrilled with the way it is turning out.

I taped off the top of the spindles that we painted white last weekend then I painted underneath first with a small brush.

Once that was done I used a 2 inch angled brush to paint the rest of the railing and the newels. I did 2 coats. I will do a 3rd coat later and then I will do a few coats of poly but I won’t be working on it again until we do the rest of the stairs.

The hand rail and the railings at the bottom of the stairs will have to wait to be done until we remove the carpet and put down treads. So my house is multi colored. Oh well. It’s a work in progress.

Tomorrow I will show you our new crown molding!

Hope you are having a great week!

  1. It looks great! (I bet that was one tedious project.)

  2. I have stairs to paint though the railing and steps have been brought back to their original state as they were in 1853. The prep work seems like a nightmare, lol.
